Manmohan to be PM till 2014: Cong on HT survey

The Congress on Monday said PM Manmohan Singh will continue on the post till the next Lok Sabha elections.

"Manmohan Singh is the Prime Minister and will continue to be so. After 2014 elections, new prime minister will be elected as per the constitutional process," party spokesman Rashid Alvi said, responding to a survey conducted by HT, according to which the country wants a young PM.
He further said the prime minister is elected by the people of the country not by such surveys. "Such surveys, in which you ask few questions to some 5,000 odd people, cannot decide who will be the prime minister of India. People of this country decide whom they want to see as their prime minister."
Alvi, however, was caught on the backfoot, when asked if the party was negating chances of Rahul Gandhi to be the prime minister during the present term of the Lok Sabha.
"Rahul Gandhi is not only a tall leader of the Congress but of the nation as well. He will definitely become the prime minister at an appropriate time."
