They added that the local area development fund (LAD) will be increased from around Rs.50 lakh to Rs.1 crore per ward.

The mayors asked the Delhi government to pay Rs.2,305 crore which is due to the municipal corporations. Addressing a news conference with Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta, the mayors of south, north and east Delhi municipal corporations said the BJP victory in the civic bodies would pave the way for uniform development.

Meera Aggarwal (north), Savita Gupta (south) and Annapurna Mishra (east) said that had the Congress won the municipal elections, the state government would have provided the funds. They accused the Delhi government of stepmotherly treatment.

“If the Delhi government gives us Rs.2,305 crore it owes us, then the provision of basic facilities to the public can be achieved easily,” said Aggarwal.

She alleged that because of the Delhi government’s lax attitude, the report of the finance commission has not been received. In its interim report, the commission has complained that the government could not provide office space and staff to the commission even after one year of its formation.

The mayors said they would ensure proper public toilets, parking, sanitation facilities and education. Modernising the city’s hospitals is also important, they said.
