MCD steps up sealing drive
Intensifying its drive against illegal construction, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday took action against 15 properties in south and west Delhi.
Intensifying its drive against illegal construction, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday took action against 15 properties in south and west Delhi. In addition, the civic agency sealed 54 establishments in east Delhi's Madhu Vihar, an unauthorised colony, for carrying out commercial activities in residential area.

The central zone of the MCD took action in areas such as Dayanand Colony, Lajpat Nagar 1, Mehar Chand market, South Extension Part-1 and Okhla Industrial area.
"Several property owners had carried out illegal construction on the first and third floor. We demolished the illegal part. In addition to this, we have also sealed the fourth floor in South Extension Part-1," said a senior MCD official.
In west Delhi, the Rohini zone of the civic agency took action in Ashok Vihar, Rohini and Shalimar Bagh, among others. At many places, the building department took action on properties which were under construction.
After the Lalita Park building collapse that took place in November 2010, MCD's building department started taking strict action in east Delhi too.
Shahdara (south) zone of the civic agency took action against unauthorised activities and misuse of properties which was being carried out. It sealed 54 establishments in Madhu Vihar in Patparganj.
"The action was taken against those commercial establishments which came into existence after February 2007 and are not protected under the law. The action was taken with the help of the police," added the official. According to the civic agency, its central zone has already uploaded details of all properties that were booked for illegal construction.
