India’s first depot for standard gauge trains has come up at Mundka.

Equipped with several stat-of-the-art facilities, the Mundka depot will cater to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) first standard gauge line from Inderlok Metro station to Mundka in west Delhi. The Mundka line, or the green line in DMRC’s parlance, will open for the public in March.

Constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 175 crore, the Mundka depot is smallest of the 7 DMRC depots in Delhi (in terms of area).

Spread over an area of 10.83 hectares, Mundka depot has the capacity to hold 90 coach trains at a time.

It has 16 stabling tracks, one 550-metre test track for training operators,

apart from a few more for inspection, workshop and cleaning purposes, a DMRC official said. HTC
