‘Missing’ bus papers won’t affect case: Cops

The crime branch also said they were in the process of getting their hands on the registration documents of the bus in which the gang rape took place.

On Monday, certain sections of the media had reported that the documents had gone missing.

“We are in touch with the transport department which has assured us that no records have been destroyed. They are taking time in finding them but are in the process of producing them soon,” the crime branch officer said.

Also, the bail plea of the arrested official in question, 60-year-old Motor Vehicle Inspector Jai Bhagwan, was rejected by a Delhi court on Tuesday due to his proven complicity in abetting bus owner Dinesh Yadav in getting it registered.

“There is no question of him being let off by any court. His signature is on Yadav’s driving licence procured in turn for payment,” said a senior crime branch official.

Jai Bhagwan, who is now retired, had been arrested from east Delhi’s Sadatpur Extension last week. He was posted as motor vehicle inspector at the Mall Road Transport Authority till December last year.
