Mom drowns kids in washing machine, kills self
Her relationship with her husband strained apparently beyond repair, a 27-year-old woman drowned her two children — a six-year-old daughter in a washing machine and an 11-month-old son in a bucket — and then committed suicide at her home in east Delhi’s Mandawali on Wednesday.

Sarita and Devender Yadav, 32, married in 2005 and fought often, according to neighbours. “At times, it got physical. They had a heated argument last night too,” said Asha Singh, a local social worker.
On Wednesday afternoon, Sarita is understood to have first killed Pari, who suffered from a slight disability in her legs, and then Rudraksh after which she hanged herself. She called Devender at work — an export house, where he is a textile designer — and “told him she was committing suicide”, a neighbour claimed.
“He rushed home to find the doors bolted from the inside. He broke open the door, only to find all three of them dead,” the neighbour added.
Devender and his family, who live on the ground floor of the same building, refused to comment.
Hiralal Shake, a local property dealer, said: “At around 2.30pm, when I was at a nearby shop recharging my mobile, I heard Devender scream. I ran up to his flat and found him sitting on the floor with his daughter’s body on his lap and his son beside him.”
“The couple’s relationship was strained and this seemed to be the last straw,” said Asha Singh.
Some neighbours also claimed that Sarita had looked upset on Tuesday evening and had not cooked for the family.
“We are not suspecting any foul play as the door of the flat was locked from the inside. No suicide note was found. We are taking the husband’s statement to understand why she took this step,” said a police officer.
