MP accuses ex-aide of attacking him

MP Hemanand Biswal (71) from Orissa's Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency told the police that his former aide Prabhat Kumar Sharma tried to shoot him at his 7, Kamaraj Lane residence, around 4 a.m. on Thursday. He claimed the former employee "wanted revenge" for sacking him.

A case was registered at Tughlaq Road police station under charges of trespassing with intention to hurt, criminal intimidation and Arms Act.

But the police have expressed doubts over the claims as the scene of 'crime' and the MP's claims about a scuffle with the alleged attacker did not match. Police said they found no signs of a forced entry.

"The MP has not been shot at. He did not suffer any injuries. He is safe," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak.
The MP told the police that he was going to the washroom when he saw Sharma opening one of his briefcases.

"I asked him what was he doing and caught him by his neck. He pulled out a pistol and put it on my head. I caught him by his hand," said Biswal.
