A multi-faith prayer meeting was held at the Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi today as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 64th death anniversary.

A multi-faith prayer meeting was held at the Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi today as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 64th death anniversary.

Vice-President Hamid Ansari and his wife Salma Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur, defence minister AK Antony and culture minister Kumari Selja were also present at the function.

Ansari and Singh also paid floral tributes on the occasion. The two-hour long programme began with a musical tribute to the Father of the Nation by children from various schools across the capital followed by reading of verses from holy books of various faiths like Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and Jainism.

This was followed by rendition of bhajans by various artistes. A two-minute silence was also observed by those present at the programme.
