According to sources, an investigation has revealed that the police control room (PCR) van which was supposed to be stationed at Munirka – the spot from where the couple boarded the said Whiteline bus on which the horrid episode later unfolded — was not present at the spot. Ironically, the police vehicle was away on a VIP assignment.
“When we checked our duty roster, it was found that the PCR van was not present as per its GPS location. When we questioned the staff, they claimed they were away on a VIP arrangement,” conceded an officer.
The four Delhi Police personnel manning the van were, indeed, away on the VIP assignment, it was later discovered.
However, senior officers are fuming at the fact that three other PCR vans – deployed across a 15km route beginning at south Delhi, where the victim couple’s ordeal began, and ending in southwest, where they were finally dumped -- were far from discharging their duties.
“Around 24-25 police stations are located on the route. As far as the PCRs are concerned, each had at least four persons. All of them have been asked to give explanations regarding their location and the tasks being undertaken at the time when the incident took place,” the officer said.
All police personnel concerned have been asked to respond in two days.
