Murder accused on the run

It took the Delhi Police just 72 hours to nab the killer of Delhi University student Radhika Tanwar, but the parents and friends of two other women, who were brutally murdered, are still awaiting justice.

In both the cases, the killers have very skillfully managed to evade the police so far.

Dwarka rape and murder case

On December 31, a 17-year-old girl went for New Year’s Eve party with a few friends never to return home. The next day, her body was found in a vacant plot in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka area. She was raped, subjected to unnatural sex, then strangled to death with her own pair of jeans and finally hit on head with a boulder.

Three months after the incident, the police are yet to make any arrests in the case. All they have done till now is detain and question more than 300 people and release a mug shot of a person who seems to have vanished in thin air.

The picture of this person was found near the spot and a reward was announced for providing information about him. “We have questioned a lot of people and working on every lead,” said a police officer.

Neetu Solanki murder case

Neetu Solanki’s body was abandoned in a carry bag at the New Delhi Railway Station early morning on February 11. She had stab wounds on her body and her hands were tied.

On March 1, the police released the photograph of her live-in partner Raju Gehlot who they believe killed her. Even after raids across the country and issuance of a lookout circular against Gehlot, the police is yet to nab him. They claim that he has gone underground.

“All efforts are being made to nab him,” said Ashok Chand, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
