NCW for women's safety in campus

The safety of students, especially women, was the hot topic for discussion at the Jansunvayi organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) at Delhi University's South Campus.

More than 100 students were present in the meet where NCW chairperson, Girija Vyas, heard the grievances of the students.

Students complained about the lack of safety around the South Campus, which is the biggest campus of the university after North Campus, and retold experiences where they were teased or molested on their way to college.

"Travelling to college is a big problem as there is no direct bus to the colleges in South Campus. We have to bear with eveteasing just to reach college. Even after the murder of Radhika Tanwar, the police protection is not very good," said a student of Moti Lal Nehru College (Evening).

Vyas, meanwhile assured that the laws regarding crime against women would be made stricter and asked deputy commissioner of police (south) HGS Dhaliwal, who was also present at the meet, to provide more security in South Campus colleges, especially women's colleges.

The Delhi University students Union also gave Vyas a memorandum which outlined the problems of students and put forth some suggestions.

Vyas has also invited suggestions from the students on how to make the campus student friendly.
