NGOs to maintain observation homes

The Delhi Government today decided to hand over the maintenance of two observation homes for mentally challenged people to NGOs and proposed stringent quality standards to ensure their proper upkeep.

The Delhi Government on Monday decided to hand over the maintenance of two observation homes for mentally challenged people to NGOs and proposed stringent quality standards to ensure their proper upkeep.

The two observation homes — one at Dwarka and the other at Bindapur in South West Delhi — were set up to decongest Asha Kiran home which witnessed a spate of deaths of inmates earlier this year.

A cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Sheila Dikshit approved a draft agreement for management, operation and maintenance of the two newly set up homes.
