No one can predict who will win here

With power, water and road problems everyday in Sangam Vihar, voters want a leader who can show visible results, reports Naziya Alvi.

Residents of Sangam Vihar claim they live with all kinds of problems. Water comes once in two days, power cuts are frequent, manholes are overflowing, roads are bad, there is no government dispensary, no proper schools... the list goes on.

Both Ramesh Bidhuri, the sitting BJP MLA, and Congress MP Sajjan Kumar have done little here, they say.

“No one can predict who will win. Everyone is equally weak,” said Pawan Kumar, a tailor from Tughlakabad Extension.

“Of all your problems, there is one I can solve, I can promise you safety,” said retired IPS officer Amod Kanth, the Congress candidate from Sangam Vihar. His main opponent is BJP candidate HCL Gupta.

On Wednesday, Kanth was out on a ‘padhyatra’ in Tughlakabad extension. “I have a deep connection with this area. I know its problems well, as 47 centres of my NGO Prayas are based here,” said Kanth.

Biharis and Poorvanchalis constitute a large chunk of voters in Sangam Vihar. Kanth who hails from Bihar claimed, “Everyone is with me.”

Almost all national parties including NCP, SP and BSP and a few Independent candidates are trying their luck in the area that desperately needs an MLA who can show some visible results.
