"There will be no sale of platform tickets at New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar and Nizamuddin railway stations from 11 am onwards from tomorrow. The ban on sale of platform tickets will remain effective till November 23," a Northern Railway official said.

This has been done for the convenience of passengers during the festive season, he added.

Railways have pressed over 800 special coaches into service and about eight special trains are being run to clear the Diwali rush.

Observing that most of the rush was being witnessed in New Delhi-Patna and New Delhi-Howrah routes, six special Rajdhani rakes were also being introduced to handle the surge in passenger traffic.

Northern Railway said 80 special trains are being run with a total 1,762 trips.

"The deployment of RPF has also been strengthened at different stations keeping the extra rush in mind," the official said, adding, "special efforts are being made to ensure that all special trains, along with regular trains, run on time."
