If the civic agency wanted, it could have sent a proposal to the Lt Governor, who has the authority to take such a decision. But sources said that as elections will end in April and Chhath puja is held later in the year, the BJP has not shown any interest in taking up the matter.

The MCD’s list of holidays for calendar year 2012 signed by the additional deputy commissioner on November 21, 2011 shows Chhat puja marked as a restricted holiday. When quizzed over this, leader of MCD House said the MCD was yet to finalise the list of holidays.
