Though the Northern Railway described it as a “minor incident”, it said the mechanical staff concerned was suspended on Saturday as the railways are “very conscious” about the safety of passengers. “It was a minor incident, but as railways are very conscious about the safety of passengers. A mechanical staff has been suspended. We’ve ordered an inquiry into this,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson.
The incident took place around 11.50am on Friday when Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, which arrived at platform No. 11, began rolling back. The passengers had, however, by then deboarded the train.
The train had rolled back about 80-90 metres before it came to a halt on its own at a track intersection point, the spokesperson said. He allayed the apprehensions about the possibility of a collision, saying such an occurrence was unlikely as Bhubaneswar Rajdhani was on a separate track and had come to a halt at the intersection point.
