In their report to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Friday, counsellors working with the 14-year-old girl, who brought the two-year-old baby girl to the AIIMS, have stated that two babies were in circulation around the same time.

"Rajkumar (the key accused who brought the battered kid to the teenager) spoke to a man about the baby. Rajkumar, his friend Nikki and the teenager went to meet a friend and there was a man unknown to the teenager at the Govindpuri Metro station. They were talking about the baby girl. The man said that there were two babies - one boy and another a girl. The boy was already adopted and asked Rajkumar if he wanted to adopt the baby girl," the report quotes the teenager as telling her counsellors.

Rajkumar had first brought the baby girl about two months back, but the teenager had refused to take care of her at that time after which it was kept with someone in Sangam Vihar for some time.

The police said that Rajkumar intended to raise the baby girl after adopting her. Despite his wife and the teenager both opposing to the idea, he reportedly brought the baby girl home. The teenager claimed that she started taking good care of the baby.

"The baby was fed whatever the teenager cooked and had been doing fine. She slapped and bit her only on the night of January 17 as she was crying badly. The baby sustained head injuries accidentally in the bathroom," the CWC report stated.

During her counselling sessions with the CWC, the 14-year-old girl had pointed to a flesh trade racket spread across the city and outside.

Four people have been arrested so far in connection with the racket. They are the father of the teenager and three members, including two women, of an interstate gang that allegedly pushed the 14-year-old girl into prostitution.
