Speaking to the HT, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy neither confirmed nor denied the suggestion but confirmed the EC’s opinion in the matter has been forwarded to President Pratibha Patil. “The matter is between the EC and President”, he said.
The EC had earlier served a notice to Singh following a petition from a Uttar Pradesh advocate that he should be disqualified from the Rajya Sabha under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act as he was holding an office of profit as chairman of the UP Development Council.
