Rajender and Jeetender, both of whom are in their early 20s and work at the Bharat Petrol Pump located on the Alipur highway, according to the police, were on their way to a bank to deposit their pump’s weekly earnings when they were waylaid around 10am.

“They were on a scooter and were carrying Rs 14 lakh given to them by their employer to deposit at a Corporation Bank branch near the petrol pump, when they were waylaid near the Alipur underpass,” said a senior police officer.

The police said that the armed duo first overtook the victim’s scooter before forcing them to halt and holding them at gunpoint.

“The rider suddenly braked in front of them and the pillion produced a country made revolver at Rajender and Jeetender, demanding the moneybag,” the officer said.

In a matter of seconds, the armed bikers fled the scene and the police, who suspect the involvement of an insider in the incident, were informed. A case or armed robbery has been registered and the petrol pump’s employees are being questioned.
