According to the police, Amit, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar reportedly went to the girl’s Ashram residence on the third floor to deliver a pizza. After delivering the order, he was climbing downstairs when he saw the five-year-old playing there. “Finding nobody in the vicinity, the accused reportedly tried to force himself on her and even sexually assaulted her. When the girl screamed, the accused pushed her and fled,” a senior police officer said.

The incident came to fore, after the girl told her mother about the crime. The girl’s mother and aunt then rushed to the Lajpat Nagar pizza outlet to catch hold of the delivery man. “Meanwhile, the mother called the police. We immediately dispatched a team to the outlet to get the details of the accused. His phone was also put on technical surveillance and he was caught within a few hours,” police said.

The police have registered a case of 376 (rape) and also booked the accused under the POCSO Act.
