Singh, the patient, demanded a few privileges including the right to have his close relative as his 24-hour attendant, get home-cooked food thrice a day and make telephone calls to his home when he wanted.
When questioned by the hospital staff, Singh, an undertrial inmate facing several charges. including under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), trotted out a trial court order.
Smelling a rat, the hospital authorities intimated the local police—Mansarovar Park, northeast Delhi—whose probe revealed that Singh had used a “forged court order that was in the name of an additional sessions judge at Patiala court”, said a police investigator who requested anonymity.
Acting on its findings, the Mansarovar police have filed a First Information Report against Singh under sections related to cheating and forgery.
Singh, lodged at sub-jail number 1, is currently received treatment at the IHBAS hospital, minus the privileges that have been withdrawn.
