Police to attach property of fugitive ‘bombers’

The Crime Branch, which is investigating the encounter, had moved an application in a city court last week to attach the property of Ariz Khan alias Junaid and Shahjad Ahmed alias Pappu, who had reportedly escaped from the L-18 flat in Batla House after opening fire on a raiding police party led by slain Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma.

Two others, including the alleged mastermind of the north India wing of Indian Mujahideen (IM) Atif Ameen alias Bashir, and Chota Sajid were killed in the shootout. Another alleged terrorist Mohammad Saif was arrested from the flat after the shootout.

ACMM Navin Arora gave a go-ahead to the Crime Branch on Saturday.

“We had moved an application to attach the property, as they have not been arrested so far. A team would be sent to their native place in Azamgarh to assess the value of their property,” said a senior police officer.

Khan, a resident of Mohalla Baz Bahadur in Azamgarh district was the one who reportedly fired at Mohan Chand Sharma. According to the chargesheet filed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, Khan had planted a bomb at M Block market in GK-I on September 13. Ahmed, according to police, had planted a bomb at Children’s Park near India Gate. He had also fired at Sharma. Mohammad Saif, who was arrested from the flat after the shootout, had given a detailed account of the entire shootout to the police.

Police said that a module of 27 members of IM had conducted the blasts in Delhi. “We conducted raids at several places but have not been able to arrest them so far,” said the officer.
