From Thursday, the police would check motorcyclists for papers and action would be taken against those who cannot produce valid documents. Emphasis would be on youngsters driving flashy motorcycles.

“If a person is driving a motorcycle, we would like to know whether he owns the motorcycle or not. If yes then what is his source of income,” said Police Commissioner YS Dadwal. This year, 60 cases of snatchings have taken place and in 70 per cent of the cases the robbers used motorcycles.

Help for missing kids

A day after six children reportedly went missing from east Delhi, the police chief announced that a separate helpline will be launched for missing children in the city. The 24-hour helpline would be functional in a fortnight.

“Our initial investigations have revealed that two girls and two boys, who went missing from east Delhi, were into a relationship. We are trying to trace them,” he said.

Dadwal said all the cases were that of elopement. “There is no organised gang known to the police that can be involved in the kidnapping of children. No role of underworld has come to fore so far in the case,” Dadwal said.

Servant verification

Putting the onus on servants, the police chief said it was their responsibility to get themselves verified with the police. “Employers think that the servants may run away if they insist on verification. We will put the pressure on the servants,” Dadwal said.

According to last year’s figures, 64 per cent of the domestic helps remained unverified.

“Unverified tenants are a danger to yourself,” he said, issuing a warning that landlords will have to face the music if they fail to comply with the directions.

Highway patrol

Delhi Traffic Police will also include 12 vans in its fleet to check traffic violations round the clock on highways where truckers tend to speed.
