Police torture 5-yr-old, NHRC seeks report

The National Human Rights Commission asked Uttar Pradesh police to submit a report on allegations that a five-year old boy was tortured by policemen who accused him of theft.

The National Human Rights Commission asked Uttar Pradesh police to submit a report on allegations that a five-year old boy was tortured by policemen who accused him of theft.

The senior superintendent of police of Lucknow has been asked to submit the report within four weeks. The NHRC issued the notice taking suo motu cognisance of a media report.

According to media reports, the incident took place on April 2 when policemen in Krishna Nagar picked up a Class I student on charges of theft and allegedly gave him electric shocks hurting his ears.

The police however denied the allegations and said the boy was injured to begin with.
