Speaker Meira Kumar and Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj tried to pacify the members. When they did not relent, the Speaker adjourned the House.
A visibly upset Mukherjee was heard lamenting that some members were bringing disgrace to the House. He was calmed down by Swaraj and BJP deputy leader Gopinath Munde.
When the House reassembled, TDP leader Namo Nageshwar Rao expressed regret for the heated exchanges.
Mukherjee also got up and apologised.
"I would like to express my regret and apology because I lost my cool and temper with one of my young colleagues, which I should not have done," he said.
