While Karat was present at the event organised by Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to celebrate the generation of 14 cadaver donations in the past two months, Gandhi did not show up.

The hospital management, however, read out a message by her saying, “You are welcome to announce my name as a donor if it helps the cause.”

CPI-M leader Karat pledged to associate herself with the cause and filled up Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation form.

“More than 50 people pledged their organs to ORBO during the event, including Karat. It’s an encouraging gesture,” said Dr Arti Vij, in-charge, ORBO.
