"He is a senior person. He knows what he is saying. I do not want to comment," Gandhi told reporters in Parliament House premises.

Advani, while initiating a discussion on an adjournment motion on the failure of the Union government to contain violence in Assam, created an uproar by his remark that the UPA 2 government was illegitimate.

He, however, withdrew it after strong protests from UPA and appeals from Speaker Meira Kumar to him to take it back.

Advani later said that he was referring to the vote of confidence in 2008 when "crores of rupees were spent" to save the government.
