"The formation of convective clouds, due to excessive evaporation caused by the high temperatures, brought rainfall in the capital on Friday. These clouds are expected to bring rain and thundershowers in the night as well," an official at the Safdarjung Meteorological Department told IANS.

“The temperature is likely to dip further and the weather will remain pleasant over the weekend as well. About 1.01 mm of rainfall was recorded," he added.

Arushi Sen, who works for a publishing house, said: "It was getting too hot and sunny. Thank god for the rain. I could step out in the afternoon for the first time in days - and the weather was awesome!"

The maximum temperature recorded on Friday was 40 degree Celsius whereas the minimum was 29 degree Celsius.

The maximum humidity level rose to 61 per cent and the minimum was 23 per cent.
