The party also wondered why the home ministry, to which Delhi Police reports, was not responsible if the police was.

The Congress, however, put the blame on the organisers for the incident in June last year.

“There was a commotion and the shortcomings (of the organisers) probably provoked the police to control the situation,” union minister and Congress leader Ambika Soni said.

“Such an attack on peaceful supporters of Ramdev would not have been possible without political clearance at a very high level. The police have suffered but what about political accountability,” asked Ravi Shankar Prasad, BJP chief spokesperson.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said BJP did not agree with the SC order that Ramdev’s Bharat Swabhiman Trust should pay 25% of the compensation.
