Regulatory body to address public grievances

The Urban development ministry is going to set up a Delhi Urban Regulatory and Appellate Authority to address the public’s grievances on issues like change of land use.

The appellate authority would also review building regulations and development charges levied by the DDA. “We are working on setting up the Delhi Urban Regulatory and Appellate Authority. Once it’s finalised, we will take it to the Parliament,” said minister Kamal Nath.

The authority’s mandate would include recommending temporary and permanent land use changes in the Master and Zonal plans and prescribe procedures for changes in land use.

“It will also vet local area plans, review building regulations and examine suggestions in respect of changes in building regulations. It will also consider cases of building regulations beyond normal compounding limits,” said Nath.

Apart from creating the appellate authority, Nath also said that public participation would be ensured during the review of the Master Plan. The minister has also directed the DDA to create an enabling structure for the receipt of suggestions from the public and to ensure that all suggestions are considered before arriving at the revised Master Plan for Delhi 2021.
