Relief to 8 others with sports quota?

Now, eight other students of the college, who got selected in sports quota and had moved court for not being allowed to sit in the semester exams, may also expect some relief.

Citing Chand's case, Justice GS Sistani on Friday asked the students to make a similar representation to vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh for their cases.

"You have done it in one case. So consider the case of other identically placed students too. The court is giving the students time to make a representation to the vice-chancellor who may take a decision... within 10 days", Justice Sistani told Mohinder Rupal, the lawyer for DU.

St Stephen's College had earlier cited Chand's poor attendance for debarring him from taking his BA first-year examination. But after public uproar, it had promoted him to second year. He will, however, have to clear his pending first-year examination in the third and fourth semesters.

The Vice-Chancellor had made it clear that Chand had been given relief as it was a "rarest of rare case" after he won the world cup for the country.
