Rogue Blueline smashes 7 cars

An 11-year-old boy was killed and four others injured in a ghastly traffic pile-up under the Raja Garden flyover in Rajouri Garden at around half-past noon on Sunday, reports Vijaita Singh.

An 11-year-old boy was killed and four others injured in a ghastly traffic pile-up under the Raja Garden flyover in Rajouri Garden at around half-past noon on Sunday.

A speeding Blueline bus crashed into a scooter, then lost control and hit seven other vehicles, all of which were stationary, waiting at the traffic signal. The boy was riding pillion with his father on the scooter.

Three of the vehicles were dragged along for about 500 metres. A Maruti van was completely crushed under the bus.

Both occupants of the van, however, survived. They were rushed to the nearby ESI Hospital, and later discharged.

The bus driver, in his early twenties, fled the scene. Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said a case of rash and negligent driving against him had been registered. He would soon be arrested, Bhagat promised.

Eyewitnesses said the bus driver lost control as he tried to jump the traffic signal by overtaking the scooter.

Eleven-year-old Monik Sharma, travelling with his father and brother on the scooter, was thrown off and crushed to death under the giant wheels.

Monik’s father Surendra Sharma said: “The bus first hit my scooter. The impact was so great that Monik was flung off the scooter and went under the rear wheels of the bus. We

survived the accident as we fell on the other side of the road.”

As angry residents vandalised the bus, traffic was held up for almost an hour at Raja Garden chowk.
