Sadhukhan was moved to Delhi from Christian Medical College in Vellore under the care of Mukherjee after a relative’s assurance. But month-long medication landed the 21-year-old with failed kidneys.

HT was the first to report the story on January 10, when Sadhukhan was battling death.

The police are yet to arrest Mukherjee, believed to be in Kolkata. “I went to the police station today morning, when I was told he would be arrested later on Wednesday,” said Madhumita Sadhukhan, the victim’s mother, a schoolteacher in Dhanbad.
