The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Centre on the closure of three public sector undertakings manufacturing essential vaccines like DPT, measles, polio and BCG.

A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan sought response from the Health Ministry headed by Ambumani Ramadoss on the closure of Central Research Institute, Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, Pasteur Institute of India, Coonoor and BCG Vaccines Lab, Chennai which were manufacturing the vaccines and distributing it to government hospitals.
