Police said that the robbers had planned the heist well in advance and had surveyed the two houses they targeted.

The four arrested accused have been identified as Rusy, Rajesh, Ravinder and Mahesh. Police said they rounded up several locals with criminal background and got the tip off about their possible involvement.

"We formed a team and arrested them when they were busy hatching plan of another robbery," a senior police officer said.

Police have recovered a similar house breaking equipment from them which was recovered from the victim's house too.

The involvement of the same gang in both the cases was collaborated with the fact that the wallet they had stolen from first house was recovered from the second that they targeted.

Police said that while three of them had entered the house, two remained outside to alert them in case of police movement.

"The houses that they targeted are located within 500 metres and they had walked to the second house after robbing and killing a woman at first house," a senior police officer said. Sources said that all of them were drunk at the time of committing robberies and murders.

In the first house in G-block, they entered through the ground floor where Shanti Devi, 67, her husband Bishan Lal, 70 and their son Bheem were sleeping. One of the robbers held Devi hostage and others started ransacking the house. By that time Lal and Bheem got up and resisted the attempt. But soon one of the robbers stabbed Shanti Devi.

They then went to D-7 block where robbed the house and killed 65-year-old Resham Devi.
