Dikshit will meet Lt Governor Tejinder Khanna on Friday morning at the Raj Bhavan and put forward her party's claim to form government, party sources said.
"She will submit a letter to the Lt Governor with the names of 42 Congress MLAs in this regard," a senior party leader said.
71-year-old Dikshit had led the party to victory for the consecutive three terms in Delhi. Congress won 42 out of the 69 constituencies which went to polls on November 29 while opposition BJP bagged 23 seats.
She was unanimously elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party yesterday.
