The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal headed by justice VK Shali of the Delhi High Court gave its seal of approval to the central government's notification dated February 9, 2012 extending the ban till 2013.

SIMI was first banned in September 2001 and since then it's being extended every year.

SIMI had sought quashing of the government's notification on the ground that the government had no fresh evidence against it to extend the ban till 2013.
