Putting the project on fast track, Delhi government has decided to start allotting “aadhar” or popularly called UID with the members of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Senior Delhi government officials said the list of 8.77 lakh BPL families living in Delhi is ready and their enrollment can be started immediately.
The decision was taken in a review meeting chaired by chief minister Sheila Dikshit. Officials said they have already finalised the agencies that would carry out the enrolment of Delhiites.
Delhi government had started giving out UID to the city’s 40 lakh homeless in October 2010. With more than 2,000 homeless already given UID, officials said they now start enrolling the rest of Delhi.
