The 04035 New Delhi-Chandigarh Special train departed from New Delhi on Tuesday at 11.45pm to arrive at Chandigarh at 4.15am on Wednesday.
The next day, the 04036 Chandigarh-New Delhi train will depart from Chandigarh on 31.3.2011 at 00.30am (midnight) to arrive in New Delhi at 5.30am the next day.
The train consists of an AC 2 tier, six sleeper coaches, eight second class and two second-cum-luggage van coaches.
The other popular trains to Chandigarh, like the two Shatabdis, are running to capacity.
"We were hoping that the special train will accommodate the rush. The timings have been kept such that people can board the return train comfortably after the match is over and return to Delhi well in time to join work," said a Northern Railway spokesman.
