The constable Ashok — posted at southeast Delhi’s CR Park area — was on his way from Kapashera to his police station when his bike was hit. Ashok’s bike was reportedly dragged for over 100 metres before he was run over by the car. The incident was reported around 11:30pm when there was a lot of traffic on the road. A passerby called the police. Ashok was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“The skid marks on the road show that the car, supposedly a Vento, dragged Ashok’s bike for several metres before finally running him over. The eyewitnesses said that the driver was alone in the car and was driving very rashly. The driver reportedly rammed another vehicle parked on the roadside while fleeing. We have started an investigation,” a police officer said.

The police registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing death against the driver who is yet to be identified.

Ashok’s body was sent for a post-mortem and his family was informed. “According to doctors, multiple head injuries and excessive bleeding caused his death,” police said.
