Speeding tractor crushes woman in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector 17

A 35-year-old woman was crushed to death by a speeding tractor in Dwarka Sector 17 on Sunday night. Three people were injured in the accident. The driver of the tractor has been arrested, police said.

Jyoti Devi received head injuries. Her relative Kaushi Devi died.

The incident took place at 9.45pm near Dwarka North police station. Kaushi Devi, 35, was sitting on the roadside in front of her house with her three daughters and two relatives. Suddenly, a tractor pulling a water tanker came from the opposite side and hit them. Kaushi was crushed under the vehicle. She was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

Her neighbours overpowered the tractor driver, Vinod Kumar Yadav, 36, and handed him to police.

Among the injured are Kaushi’s daughters and relatives who are recuperating.

Kaushi’s family said she came under the tractor when she was trying to push her daughters away.

“It all happened quickly. We were sitting outside the house and, suddenly, a tractor appeared from the opposite direction. Before I could react, my mother pushed me and my sisters away. When I got up, my mother was under the tractor’s tyre. The tractor stopped after hitting two others,” said Puja Kumari, Kaushi’s daughter.

Neighbours rushed to help them. .

“We realised that the driver was drunk and handed him to police,” said Jyoti Devi, 20, Kaushi’s relative. Jyoti received minor head injuries.

Kaushi’s husband is a rickshaw puller.
