Sports trials begin despite protest
Despite strong protests from the Delhi University Teachers’ Association, the Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) started the centralised spots trials on Tuesday.
Despite strong protests from the Delhi University Teachers’ Association, the Delhi University Sports Council (DUSC) started the centralised spots trials on Tuesday.
Trials for football, softball, volleyball, wrestling and shooting were conducted on the first day. While sports teachers stayed away from the trials, the DUSC had called experts to assess students. “Everything went off smoothly. We got former sportspersons, technical experts and coaches to judge the trials,” said Sudarshan Pathak, coordinating director, DUSC.
Meanwhile, colleges such as Kamla Nehru College, St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College did not send the list of students to the DUSC and have already conducted their private trials.
Till Tuesday, 49 colleges had sent the completed list of students. Deen Dayal Upadhyay College sent its list on Tuesday itself. “ Daulat Ram College , Kamla Nehru College and Kirori Mal College (KMC) have not provided us with the information we need. KMC had sent us a list of 1,400 applicants without scrutinising their certificates and without giving them marks. We are giving provisional admit cards to the deserving applicants from KMC,” said Pathak.
“Those who had applied through the sports quota from any of these colleges have missed the chance to appear for football, softball, wrestling, shooting and volleyball trials. We are trying our best to help the students,” she added.
Benu Gupta, associate professor, Physical Education, KMC, maintained that the college authorities had sent the information to the DUSC long time back. “The principal had sent revised information to the DUSC. They have rejected our list four times. Since the teachers have dissociated themselves from the process, the administrative staff had to prepare the lists,” she said.
“We have not sent the list. We conducted the trials but nothing has been decided so far,” said Asha Kohli, admission in-charge, Kamla Nehru College.
