St. Stephen’s professor jumps to death from second floor

A 63-year-old Chemistry professor of St Stephen's College reportedly jumped to death from the second floor of his Greater Kailash home in south Delhi on Wednesday morning, police said.

A 63-year-old Chemistry professor of St Stephen's College reportedly jumped to death from the second floor of his Greater Kailash home in south Delhi on Wednesday morning, police said.

Mahesh Chander Jain was reportedly suffering from depression and he left behind a suicide note where he claimed no one was responsible for his death. “His wife and daughter were present in the house when he jumped to death,” said Virendra Singh Chail, additional commissioner of police (southeast).

Jain was found dead in the courtyard of the house around 8.30 a.m. The police suspect he jumped from the window of a second floor room. Jain was under medication for the past two years.

Jain was a teacher with St Stephen's for the past 30 years and was to retire soon. He was on leave from January.
