Mathai, who is also the president of the Indian Christian Voice, called for expunging the remarks by the judges, as this would only encourage more crimes of such magnitude against the Christians.
“Though Staines and his minor sons were burnt while they were sleeping inside a station wagon, the intention was to teach a lesson to Staines about his religious activities, namely, converting poor tribals to Christianity, “ the court had ruled.
“The murder of Staines and his two minor sons was nothing but cold blooded murder. Yet murdering in cold blood does not constitute the ‘rarest of the rare’ as per the judgement of the Supreme Court”, Mathai said.
