Stereo thief in police net

Ishtiyaq, who goes by only one name, was climbing the financial graph with top speed till the Delhi police cut short his trip. The police arrested him from Hauz Khas on Wednesday, reports Vijaita Singh.

He is only 30-year-old and earns between Rs 7-8 lakh per day.

The man had created havoc in the posh colonies in the Capital in the last two months by stealing car accessories.

After making sure that there was no security guard in sight and the police presence was low, he would strike and decamp with whatever was in the car. He did not even spare the T Shirts and gym wear.

Police said they have recovered 5 laptops, 150 stereos, 40 air conditioners, several DVDs, 80 T-shirts, 50 amplifiers and the Hyundai Accent car in which he carried the heists.

Once he struck at a Mayur Vihar colony, barely 100 metres from a police post. Ishtiyaq drove in a Hyundai Accent car so that no one would suspect him and he mainly struck during the early hours of the day.

The thief had struck at Green Park, Mayur Vihar, Anand Vihar, Maurya Enclave, Dwarka, Defence Colony, South Extension and Vasant Kunj among other places in the past two months.

Police said the recoveries were still on. His accomplice identified as Bittu, who used to buy the stolen articles from him, has also been arrested.

“We arrested Ishtiyaq from Hauz Khas when he was planning to commit another such heist there,” said a senior police officer.

A resident of Ghaziabad, Ishtiyaq first conducted a recce at the colonies in his luxury car.

“Once he was convinced that the presence of security guards was low and there was little police patrolling, he would enter the colonies and make away with the accessories. As he did not want to share the booty, he operated alone,” said the officer.
