In a letter to Karnataka Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa, the minister alleged that three firms — S. B. Minerals, Trident Minerals and Veeyam Private Limited — were carrying out mining in violation of norms under the forest clearance given in July 2009.
Ramesh has asked the state to temporarily withdraw forest clearance given to the companies till they implement the norms that included erection of pillars and tree plantation in the safety zone during rainy season.
“During that period, the State Forest Department should ensure that no transportation of minerals is allowed,” Ramesh said urging the chief minister to submit an action taken report on the issue by July 10.
This comes close after Centre’s suggestion for CBI probe over illegal mining.
