Coming close on the heels of last week's spate of protests in central Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police have planned a major crackdown drive against vehicles violating traffic norms the entire night.

Beginning at 10pm, traffic police will prosecute all violators till early morning, said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

"The drive will be an extension of the ongoing drive against drunk driving. Around 10pm, traffic policemen in huge numbers, on nearly 200 bikes of the chase and challan squad, will hit the road," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

The focus of the special drive will be on rash driving, hooliganism and stunts by people on city roads. Besides, there will be strict traffic regulations in place at city's major watering holes.

"Our men will be deployed near farmhouses in the outskirts of the city throughout the night," said Garg.

On Monday evening, when city gears up to party, Delhi's heart Connaught Place will be completely out of bound for the general vehicular traffic, said Garg. Only few pass-holders will be allowed to enter CP.

Traffic police are also likely to restrict the movement and halt of vehicles in and around India Gate on the New Year's eve, said an official.
