Affiliated to the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University, Gandhinagar, a first of its kind university in the country, the institute offers three diploma courses that have a duration of six months each and three postgraduate (PG) diploma courses, which have duration of one year each, in Forensic Sciences.
Admission to all the courses will be strictly done on merit basis and the minimum eligibility is 55 per cent.
Candidates enrolling for PG diploma in Forensic Science and Crime Scene Management need to have completed MSc with Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Life Sciences, Zoology, Forensic Science.
For Hand Writing and Document Examination, another PG diploma course, MSc students with Chemistry, Physics and Forensic Science can apply while those wanting to pursue Forensic DNA Analysis should have completed MSc with Biology and Forensic Science.
To pursue a diploma in Forensic Ballistic Examination one needs to have MSc with physics, forensic science and maths.
Those interested in Cyber Forensic need to have a MCA degree with a BTech in Electronics, Computer Science or Information Technology or MSc with Physics.
Students with a MSc or MA in Psychology and Criminology can apply for diploma in Polygraphy and Lie Detection.
Gautam K. Thawani, president of the institute, said, "There is dearth of manpower in forensic science research in our country and this institute aims to overcome that."
"Candidates completing the course may find placements with the Ministry of Home Affairs and lawyers too can hire their services to help them solve cases," he added.
The fee for diploma course is Rs 60,000 while that of the PG diploma is Rs 1, 20000 and each course will have a maximum of 20 seats.
