Rejecting the BJP criticism over CVC's appointment, highly placed sources said Swaraj wanted her choice among the three candidates short listed by the government to prevail, something that was contrary to the law enacted by Parliament.
The CVC is selected out of a list of three officers by a panel chaired by the PM. The home minister and Swaraj are the other members of the panel.
Government sources said it was in a spirit of cooperation that the panel went by Swaraj’s advice when the panel selected a vigilance commissioner out of the three names.
