On Sunday afternoon doctors at the Lok Nayak Hospital were taken by surprise, when a bus carrying foreign tourists landed at their emergency with two of its occupants hit by bullets.

“At first, we didn’t get a thing, as we had not seen anything like this before. The driver had brought the bus straight to the hospital with the injured tourists inside,” said a senior resident doctor on duty at the hospital, requesting anonymity.
At around noon, two Taiwanese men were taken out of the bus with bullet injuries at the back of head and in the abdomen respectively.
“One of them was hit in the lower abdomen and appeared to be critical. The other one was bleeding from the back of his head, and it that appeared the bullet had grazed past his skull,” said the doctor. Chiang Ko, 38, is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a critical state.
“We feared severe injury to his vital abdominal organs. The bullet had perforated parts of his intestine, liver, etc., so he had to be immediately operated upon,” said Dr Amit Banerjee, Medical Superintendent, Lok Nayak Hospital. The other tourist, Zeseweiu Ku, 27, is also in the ICU but stable.
Meanwhile, with the Delhi Police personnel strictly guarding the premises, the hospital had literally been turned into a fortress. The hospital had also posted two guards at each of the entrance gates on all its floors.
